Original story

ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — Deputies are looking for a woman who may have tried to give her infant away Thursday morning in Salisbury.

Witnesses told investigators a woman, who seemed to be impaired, showed up at the Love’s Travel Stop located at 1105 Peeler Road around 9 a.m.

The female suspect never explicitly said she wanted someone to take her baby, but did infer that she needed to make some changes in her life. That led witnesses to believe she wanted someone to take the child.

When deputies arrived on the scene 5 minutes later the woman was gone.

The suspect is described as a 20-year-old woman with blond hair. She was wearing blue jeans and a floral shirt.

Deputies determined that the woman was driving a red Volkswagen Jetta with the South Carolina license tag KIM170.

Officers in South Carolina checked the address linked to the tag but only found a vacant apartment.

Now officers statewide are on the lookout for the vehicle to conduct a welfare check.

Anyone who sees the vehicle is asked to contact local law enforcement immediately.
