GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. — Thieves are going into homes to steal things and it’s happening while homeowners are at work.
Guilford County sheriff’s deputies say burglars are forcing their way inside homes between 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Investigators are specifically concerned about homes located along N.C. 61 North. Deputies say they’ve seen a spike in break-ins around there. In June, seven were reported just in that area.
These thieves have gotten away with computers, televisions, jewelry and handguns.
The sheriff’s department sent out Reverse 911 calls, automated messages to thousands of homes in the eastern part of the county, notifying them of the rise in break-ins.
Officials say they need help. In order to catch these people and stop future break-ins they want neighbors to be attentive to their surroundings. They encourage the public to report any suspicious behavior.
There have been no charges and no arrests. However, officials say they have some suspects in mind.
Investigators say in at least one of the break-ins a gold SUV was spotted. If you have any information about this or about any of the break-ins, contact the sheriff’s department.
