State shuts down NC day care center after child left in hot bus

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services has shut down a Chapel Hill day care where a 2-year-old was left on a bus for several hours Tuesday when temperatures topped 100 degrees.

Operation New Life was told to close at the end of business Friday because “conditions at the facility represent immediate danger to the health, safety, and welfare of children receiving care at the facility.”

Operation New Life has the right to appeal.
