Driver caught with cocaine says ‘E.T. phone home’ during field sobriety test

MENTOR, Ohio — A man pulled over for speeding in Ohio on Sunday made a reference to the iconic 80s alien E.T.

Mentor police stopped Esteban Couvertier, of Painesville, on state Route 2 near Center Street at about 4:40 a.m. Police said the 24-year-old was obviously intoxicated and had white powder on his nose.

During his field sobriety test, Couvertier said “E.T. phone home,” according to Mentor police.

He failed the test, and officers found a couple grams of marijuana and cocaine in his possession. His passenger, who was also intoxicated, was taken into custody for his own safety.

Couvertier was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, speeding and failure to wear a seatbelt.
