Powerball jackpot winners are not giving away cash to random people, don’t fall for scam

A recent scam claims a couple who won the $1.5 billion Powerball jackpot is giving away cash to random people – but it’s not true.

The scam is being shared all over the internet and claims John and Lisa Robinson of Munford, Tennessee are randomly giving away the money because they don’t need it all.

Tom Demers, a news personality at WREG in Memphis, posted to his Facebook page over the weekend that the claim was a scam.

“Not sure what kind of information they’re getting from you when you do it,” he said on Facebook, referring to the scam, which apparently asks people to go to a website. “Please share this, instead of re-posting.”

John and Lisa Robinson were recently confirmed as one of three winners of the $1.586 billion Powerball jackpot.

They will have to split the jackpot three ways with other winners from Florida and California. But that’s still more than $500 million to each party.
